Culinary Group
Attention food lovers. There are many free upcoming food events that might be of interest to you.
On Tuesday, October 20th from 7-8:30pm, the Troy Library is hosting Cooking with Mary: Fall skillet suppers. Mary Spencer will prepare two hearty dinners, all in a single pan. On Tuesday, November 17th from 7-8pm, the Troy Library is again offering the popular Charcuterie 101: Holiday Boards & Bites. This was a sell-out last year, so if you’re interested, you’ll have to act fast. The Madison Heights library has a cookbook club that meets on the second Tuesday of the odd months of the year. Meetings are 6:30-7:30pm and the staff picks a specific cookbook and everyone makes and brings a dish to share. For the November 10th meeting, the theme is “Pies”, just in time for Thanksgiving. And on January 12th, the topic is soup and bread, for those cold and snowy evenings. If you are interested, check the library website to join:

Evening Euchre
October 10 is our next euchre and will be held at the home of Amy Strnad. We will start at 6:45pm.
We’re an intermediate group and welcome new people. If you’ve played Euchre before, consider joining us for a fun evening!

Ladies Bowling
Our first day of bowling took place on the 17th. We have 8 complete teams this year. After 1 week of bowling, we already have a few “star bowlers” shinning thru. Michelle Freeman leads with most turkeys already (3). Two other bowlers are already hot on her trail with 1 each (Allison Henderson and Laura Carlin). Kaoru Goda leads with high game, high series and highest average! And to think Kaoru had never bowled before joining our league a few years ago! There are 4 teams tied for 1st place and 3 teams tied for 2nd so not much happening yet. But with the great start we have had, it should
prove to be an exciting season.
We are always in need of substitute bowlers. Subs pay $10.00 per week and bowling balls and shoes are provided by the alley for no extra cost, if you need them.

Ladies Morning Euchre

If you are not a regular hostess, please let Darcel know if you wish to bring a breakfast item for that day. Also, if you are a beginner or need teaching, let the hostess know so you will not be counted in the table count.

Ladies Game Night (Girls’ Night Out)
Game Night is a fun night of beginner-friendly games and some light competition. Each month we have a hostess; she picks a date and chooses the games to play. Some light refreshments are served. We play anything from cards, dominoes, board games, activity games or whatever the hostess thinks will be fun.

Ladies Pickleball
Indoor pickleball is played on Wednesdays, from 1:00-3:00pm, at the Troy First United Methodist Church at 6363 Livernois for 2-month sessions starting in Oct/Nov and ending in the spring. We don’t play if a Wednesday falls before a Thursday holiday (Thanksgiving and sometimes Christmas, etc.) During this past summer, we moved our game outside to Firefighter’s Park in Troy on Tuesday mornings.
There are regular players and substitutes. Regular players are asked to contact the substitutes if they cannot play. The cost to rent the gym is divided among the regular players and is due the first day of each session. (The cost has been much less than area pickleball sites.) Members are always welcome to watch to see if they would be interested in learning the game. We do teach new players and paddles/balls are available at the church.

Mah Jongg
The Troy Newcomers Mah Jongg group met 2 times in September and enjoyed friendships, great conversations, delightful refreshments and several mahjongg games.
Our October dates are as follows:

Friday, October 23rd at 1pm at Jane Egermann’s Home.
New Mahjongg players are encouraged to join and will be assisted by existing members in learning the game.

Meadow Brook Ushering
If you are a play lover, then this activity is for you! The Meadow Brook season looks especially interesting with play topics from westerns (“The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”) to rock-and-roll (“Rolling Thunder – A Rock Journey”). We usher the third week of each play (fourth week for “A Christmas Carol”). Ushers are responsible for arriving 45 minutes prior to the play start, helping to seat patrons, then they can sit back and enjoy the play.

Scrapbooking/Crafts
Come join us as we scrap and craft on Monday, October 26th at the home of Darcel Connors from 11am to 5pm. Feel free to bring scrapbooking or other craft, sewing projects that you are working on. You are welcome to bring a lunch. Darcel will provide drinks and snacks.

Widows Group
Our Widow’s Group meets bi-monthly in a warm, welcoming environment where we can share, laugh, remember, and support one another. Whether your loss is recent or many years ago, all women who have lost a partner are welcome.
There is no expectation and no judgment—just friendship, understanding, and a supportive group of ladies who truly “get it”.

Wine Tasting
Each wine tasting evening is hosted by a Troy Newcomer member on a Friday or Saturday evening once a month from September through June. It is an informal, friendly evening where you have a chance to taste approximately 6 wines. The members attending may bring a spouse or friend along with an appetizer, their wine glasses and $10 per wine drinker which will contribute to the cost of the wine.
Those who do not drink wine are welcome to attend. They will bring an appetizer but are not asked to pay the $10. When you RSVP, let the hostess know if you will not be drinking wine.
The hostess chooses the wines she would like to serve. The hostess supplies the coffee and desserts. This activity is held once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening beginning at 6:30pm.
