Book Club
TNC Book Club is an active group of about 30 members. Volunteers host our meetings on the third Wednesday evening of each month, we even meet during the summer months. The Hosts select the books, provide refreshments, and meet at 6:30 pm. Hosts limit the number of members who attend, typically 12 to 14 people. Most have meetings at their homes, but we’ve also met at a local park during the warmer months.
Our books are normally fiction, spanning the genre of historical, memoir, mystery & crime, thriller & suspense and romance. We use discussion questions for the selected book to help guide our conversation of the book.

Culinary Group
The Culinary Group is looking for members interested in all things related to food such as trying new restaurants, visiting ethnic food stores, learning about different culinary cultures, hands-on cooking classes, cooperative cooking. The ideas are endless.
Bring your ideas and help organize an event to broaden our knowledge. Whatever you can conceive we’ll give it a try. We’re just getting started and we’re open to suggestions and help. This is your chance to be creative and share your expertise.

Evening Euchre
October 10 is our next euchre and will be held at the home of Amy Strnad. We will start at 6:45pm.

Ladies Bowling
Our club’s bowling league typically begins in mid-September. The league plays at Escape Bowling Alley in Troy on Thursday mornings. We bowl around 30 weeks with a break for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day, finishing near the end of April. All levels of bowling are encouraged to join. Teams are made up of three bowlers, one each of low, mid and high averages. Each year teams will be randomly selected. The fee is currently $12.00 per week. The alley will supply shoes and a bowling ball if needed at no extra cost. We hold a year end banquet where prize money is distributed. If you cannot commit to the full 30 weeks, we are always in need of substitute bowlers. Substitutes pay $10.00 each time they bowl.

Ladies Morning Euchre
We play Morning Euchre once per month from Sept-May, at the home of the hostess. The hostess picks a weekday morning and we start at 9:30 am until around 12 Noon. There are coffee and breakfast items to eat, no fee is required and we rotate tables. We also teach beginners and refresh past players, just let the hostess know. RSVP is required each month. Casual and fun environment.

Ladies Game Night (Girls’ Night Out)
Ladies’ Game Night is a fun night of beginner-friendly games with some light competition. Each month that we have a hostess, she picks a date and time to host and plans the game to be played. We play anything from cards, dominoes, board games, activity games or anything the hostess thinks sounds fun. Light refreshments are served. It is asked that if you attend regularly but do not host, you offer to bring something to help the hostess.

Ladies Pickleball
Indoor pickleball is played on Wednesdays, from 1:00-3:00pm, at the Troy First United Methodist Church at 6363 Livernois for 2-month sessions starting in Oct/Nov and ending in the spring. We don’t play if a Wednesday falls before a Thursday holiday (Thanksgiving and sometimes Christmas, etc.) During this past summer, we moved our game outside to Firefighter’s Park in Troy on Tuesday mornings.
There are regular players and substitutes. Regular players are asked to contact the substitutes if they cannot play. The cost to rent the gym is divided among the regular players and is due the first day of each session. (The cost has been much less than area pickleball sites.) Members are always welcome to watch to see if they would be interested in learning the game. We do teach new players and paddles/balls are available at the church.

Mah Jongg
Mah jongg is an ancient Chinese game played with tiles. You may have seen it played in movies such as Driving Miss Daisy, The Joy Luck Club, and Crazy Rich Asians.
We play the American version of the game which uses the National Mah Jongg League card.
The Newcomers mah jongg group meets the second Friday of the month at 9:30 am and the fourth Friday of the month at 1 pm. Play is generally at the home of Jane Egermann. Group members sign up to bring treats for the morning session.
While anyone is welcome to drop in, if you are new to the game, it is advisable to let Jane know you are coming so she can set up a “teaching table.” It’s also a good idea to get on Jane’s email list of mah jongg players in case there is a mid- month change in time or location.

Meadow Brook Ushering
If you are a theatre lover, then this is the activity for you! We usher at Meadow Brook Theatre in Rochester from October to June, the third week of each play (fourth week for “A Christmas Carol”). Performances are Wednesday & Sunday matinees and Wednesday through Saturday evenings.
The Usher Schedule is created in August/September each year for the season. You would sign up for the performance of your choice and usher for that performance for the entire season. There is a sub list available if you cannot attend one of your performances and need a sub. Ushers are required to arrive 45 minutes prior to the play start and dress in a white shirt/blouse and black slacks/skirt. They help seat patrons and then they can sit in the rear of the theatre and enjoy the play. You are not required to stay for the play if you chose not to. Women in the group may sign up with a spouse or significant other. If you can’t commit for the whole season, you can sign up to be a sub. You can be added to the sub list any time during the year.

Scrapbooking/Crafts
The scrapbooking activity is for anyone wishing to scrapbook photos, make cards, sew or knit. (Any craft, actually.) We usually meet once a month at a member’s home or at a nearby scrapbooking store for their open crop. Days will vary due to the hostess’ preference. There is no fee unless we are scrapbooking at a store, and that varies on the store. It is a fun way to have company while you work on your project, see what others are doing and learn new ideas for your crafting.

Widows Group
Our Widow’s Group meets bi-monthly in a warm, welcoming environment where we can share, laugh, remember, and support one another. Whether your loss is recent or many years ago, all women who have lost a partner are welcome.
There is no expectation and no judgment—just friendship, understanding, and a supportive group of ladies who truly “get it”.

Wine Tasting
Each wine tasting evening is hosted by a Troy Newcomer member on a Friday or Saturday evening once a month from September through June. It is an informal, friendly evening where you have a chance to taste approximately 6 wines. The members attending may bring a spouse or friend along with an appetizer, their wine glasses and $10 per wine drinker which will contribute to the cost of the wine.
Those who do not drink wine are welcome to attend. They will bring an appetizer but are not asked to pay the $10. When you RSVP, let the hostess know if you will not be drinking wine.
The hostess chooses the wines she would like to serve. The hostess supplies the coffee and desserts. This activity is held once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening beginning at 6:30pm.
